Quick answer

Paste titles (one per line) to get clean slugs right away: lowercase, no accents, words joined with hyphens, e.g. “How to Compress JPG Images” becomes “how-to-compress-jpg-images”. You can cap the length without cutting a word in half, drop filler words like “the, of, and”, or use underscores.

What is a URL slug?

A slug is the readable last part of a URL, like “image-compressor” in congcunhanh.com/en/image-compressor/. Short, descriptive slugs tell people what a page is about before they click and are a small signal for search engines. Accented characters in URLs get percent-encoded into strings like “%C3%A1”, so the common convention is to strip accents and join words with hyphens. This tool does that for a whole list of titles at once, and it handles Vietnamese (đ → d, all tone marks) correctly.

How to create slugs

  1. 1

Paste one or more titles into the box, one per line.

  2. 2

Choose the separator (hyphens are recommended), a maximum length if your CMS has one, and tick “Drop filler words” for shorter slugs.

  3. 3

Press “Copy” next to a slug, or “Copy all” when you have several to paste into a spreadsheet.

Hyphen or underscore?

Hyphen -how-to-cook-phoWeb URLs: Google recommends hyphens to separate words
Underscore _how_to_cook_phoVariable names, internal file names or existing product codes

Examples

A blog post

“A Guide to Choosing a Laptop for Students and Workers” with “Drop filler words” becomes “guide-choosing-laptop-students-workers”: shorter but still meaningful.

A product catalogue

Paste 200 product names, one per line, then “Copy all” and paste into the URL column of your spreadsheet for a bulk import.

A CMS with a 60-character limit

Set the maximum to 60: the slug stops at the last whole word that fits instead of being cut mid-word.

Common problems

Changing the slug of a page that already gets traffic.
The old URL will return 404. If you must change it, add a 301 redirect from the old slug to the new one.
Slugs that contain a whole sentence.
Keep 3–6 key words; use “Drop filler words” and a length limit.
Two posts with the same slug.
Add a distinguishing word (a year, a place) rather than letting the CMS append “-2”.
The slug comes out empty.
A title made only of emoji or symbols has no letters or digits left; add a few descriptive words.

Why URLs should avoid accents

Modern browsers can display accented characters in the address bar, but when a link is copied or shared it is usually percent-encoded: “đường” becomes “%C4%91%C6%B0%E1%BB%9Dng”. The link gets long, hard to read and easy to break in messages and emails.

Lowercase, accent-free slugs joined with hyphens avoid all of that and behave the same on every platform. It's also how Công Cụ Nhanh names its own URLs.

Glossary

Slug
The descriptive part of a URL, lowercase, without accents, words joined by hyphens.
The permanent URL of a post; the slug is its last part.
Stop word
A frequent word with little meaning such as “the”, “of”, “và”; dropping them shortens slugs.
301 redirect
Tells browsers and Google that a page has moved permanently to a new address.

Frequently asked questions

Do slugs affect SEO?

Slightly: a clear slug helps people and search engines understand the page, but the page content matters far more.

How long should a slug be?

Usually 3–6 words and under about 60 characters; the tool can enforce a limit without splitting words.

Can I keep capital letters?

Yes, untick “All lowercase”. URLs are case-sensitive, though, so lowercase avoids duplicates.

Can I create many slugs at once?

Yes, one title per line, and the results keep the same order.
