Quick answer
Monthly pension = pension rate × adjusted average salary. Women with 15 years get 45%, men with 20 years get 45% (men with 15 to under 20 years start at 40%, plus 1% a year); each further year adds 2%, up to 75%. Retiring early cuts 2% per year (Social Insurance Law 41/2024/QH15, Article 66). In 2026 the normal retirement age is 61 years 6 months for men and 57 for women.
How is a Vietnamese pension calculated?
This calculator estimates a Vietnamese monthly pension under the 2024 Social Insurance Law (in force since 1 July 2025). It finds your retirement age from your month of birth and the 2019 Labour Code roadmap, works out the rate from your contribution years (with leftover months rounded), applies any early-retirement cut, multiplies by your average salary adjusted with the 2026 coefficients, and adds the one-off allowance when your years exceed what is needed for 75%.

How to estimate your pension
- 1
Choose your sex and enter your month of birth (e.g. 10/1975): the normal retirement age and the month your pension starts appear straight away.
- 2
Enter your contribution periods (from month, to month, salary) from your social insurance book or VssID. You can include the years you still plan to contribute.
- 3
If you plan to retire early (qualifying through reduced work capacity, arduous jobs…), open “Retiring early” and enter the month.
- 4
Read the monthly pension, the rate, any early-retirement cut and the one-off allowance (for more than 35 years as a man or 30 as a woman).
- 5
Copy the result or the result link to keep and compare scenarios.

Men with 15 to under 20 years: 40% for 15 years plus 1% per year. From 20 years (men) or 15 years (women): 45% plus 2% per year, up to 75%. Early retirement: 2% off per year; under 6 leftover months no cut, 6 to under 12 months 1%.
Normal retirement age
| Year of retirement | Men | Women |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 61 years 3 months | 56 years 8 months |
| 2026 | 61 years 6 months | 57 years |
| 2027 | 61 years 9 months | 57 years 4 months |
| 2028 | 62 years | 57 years 8 months |
| 2030 | 62 years | 58 years 4 months |
| From 2035 | 62 years | 60 years |
Article 169(2) of the 2019 Labour Code and Decree 135/2020/NĐ-CP: from 2021 men 60 years 3 months, plus 3 months a year to 62 (2028); women 55 years 4 months, plus 4 months a year to 60 (2035). The pension starts the month after you reach the age.
Examples
Man born 05/1966, contributing from 1996 to retirement
In 2028 the age is 62, reached in May 2028. Contributions 01/1996 – 04/2028 (salaries of 3, 8 and 15 million) total 32 years 4 months, counted as 32.5 → 45% + 2% × 12.5 = 70%. The adjusted average is VND 14,990,103, so the pension is about VND 10,493,072 a month.
Woman born 03/1971, 28 years at VND 10 million
In 2028 women retire at 57 years 8 months, reached in November 2028. 28 years → 45% + 2% × 13 = 71%. Salaries from 2001 are multiplied by coefficients (4.09 for 2001), giving an average of VND 18,835,714 and a pension of about VND 13,373,357 a month.
Woman born 08/1975 retiring 2 years 2 months early
Her normal age is 60 (August 2035). 25 years 6 months → 25.5 years → 66%. Retiring 26 months early cuts 2% × 2 = 4% (the 2 leftover months are under 6, no cut), leaving 62% × VND 13,715,294 ≈ VND 8,503,482 a month.
Common mistakes
- Applying the rate to the last salary.
- The pension uses the average salary over the whole contribution period (for employer-set salaries), each year adjusted by its coefficient.
- Thinking 20 years are still required.
- The 2024 law lowered the minimum to 15 years once you reach retirement age; men with 15 to under 20 years start at 40%.
- Using the old 60 / 55 ages.
- The age rises every year; in 2026 it is 61 years 6 months for men and 57 for women. The calculator uses your exact birth month.
- Forgetting the extra allowance for long careers.
- Each year above 35 (men) or 30 (women) adds 0.5 months of average salary, paid once at retirement (Article 68).
Who qualifies for a pension
Under Article 64 of the 2024 law, compulsory contributors with at least 15 years who reach the retirement age in Article 169(2) of the Labour Code receive a pension. People with 15 years in arduous or hazardous jobs, in very disadvantaged areas, or with reduced work capacity may retire earlier, with the rate reduced for each early year.
Limits of this calculator
The average covers the whole contribution period. State pay-scale periods are averaged over the final years instead (5 to 20 depending on when you started), so results can differ.
Coefficients are the 2026 table; future years use 1 for now. When you actually retire, that year's table applies.
It does not cover armed-forces pensions, special voluntary-insurance rates, or contributing beyond retirement age (2 months per extra year under Article 68(2)).
