Quick answer

Add the players' names (or skip it), pick question packs and a level, then on each turn press Truth, Dare or Random. There are 320 original prompts: 160 truths and 160 dares across five packs (friends, kids, work, couples, family) at two levels, mild and medium. Nothing repeats within a game until a pack runs out, and you get a swap button, a dare timer and a big-screen mode.

Key points

  • 320 original prompts per language: 160 truths and 160 dares, 32 mild and 32 medium in every pack.
  • No adult content, alcohol, risky stunts, spending money or putting anyone down, so it works in a classroom.
  • Turns go in order or at random (everyone plays once per round), and prompts never repeat within a game.
  • Add prompts of your own, saved in your browser, and time dares from 15 to 120 seconds.
  • Big-text present mode for a projector or TV at team building days and class activities.

What is truth or dare?

Truth or dare is the party game everyone knows from sleepovers, camps, birthdays and team days: on your turn you either answer a question honestly or take on a small challenge. The hard part is coming up with prompts on the spot. Too tame and people get bored, too much and someone ends up uncomfortable. This tool comes with 320 prompts written for different groups and checked to be fun without crossing lines, plus turn tracking, a dare timer and a present mode so the whole room can follow along.

How to play truth or dare online

  1. 1

Type the players' names and press Add (several at once, separated by commas). Prefer not to? Skip it and pass the phone around the circle.

  2. 2

Choose packs that suit the group: Friends, Kids & classroom, Work & team building, Couples, Family (mix as many as you like), and a level: Mild, Medium or Both.

  3. 3

Pick whether turns go in order or at random. To time the dares, tick Time the dares and choose 15 to 120 seconds.

  4. 4

Whoever's turn it is presses Truth, Dare or Random. If the prompt doesn't suit, press Swap it; when it's done, press Next turn.

  5. 5

Playing in front of a crowd? Press Present for full-screen big text. Press New game to start the packs over.

Each turn shows whose go it is, the question or dare, and a timer for dares.

The five packs

Examples

A class of 30

The teacher picks Kids & classroom, Mild, random turns, enters 30 names and presses Present. Each round every pupil is called exactly once and nobody goes twice in a row; 32 truths and 32 dares last the whole session without repeats.

Icebreaker for a team of 12

Choose Work & team building, Both levels, and a 30-second dare timer. The host puts it on the meeting-room TV; everyone gets a turn in about ten minutes, and anyone can press Swap it without having to explain why.

A night in for two

The Couples pack needs no names: put the phone between you and take turns pressing Truth or Dare. Prompts are about memories, wishes and thank-yous, with nothing designed to start an argument or overshare.

A family holiday

Mix Family and Kids & classroom so there's something for grandparents and little ones alike, then add a few family in-jokes of your own; your prompts are drawn together with the built-in ones.

Common mix-ups

Prompts start repeating in a long game.
They only repeat once every prompt in the selected packs has been used, and the tool tells you when the pack starts over. Add another pack or switch to Both levels, and press New game when the group changes.
A dare mentions another player but nobody entered names.
A few dares involve someone else ("Give {p} a compliment"). Without a player list, the tool says "the person on your right" instead.
Someone pushes another player into a dare they don't want.
Agree up front that anyone can press Swap it with no penalty. The packs avoid sensitive topics, but every group has its own limits and they deserve respect.
Your own prompts vanished on a new phone.
They're stored only in this browser (localStorage) and never synced. Clearing browser data or using a private window removes them too.

Truth or dare rules

Sit in a circle. On your turn, choose Truth (answer a question honestly) or Dare (do something small right there and then). Agree on a few house rules before you start: one or two swaps per round, a funny story if someone turns down the replacement too, and no filming without asking.

Press Random when a player can't decide; truth and dare are equally likely. Random turn order reshuffles every round, so nobody knows when they're up, yet everyone still gets a go before anyone plays twice.

Turns travel around the table: draw a card, answer a truth or take on a dare.

How the prompts were written

All 320 prompts were written for this site. Each one was checked against the same rules: no sexual or overly intimate content, no alcohol, smoking or drugs, no risky stunts, eating odd things, hurting or teasing anyone, no spending money or posting on social media, and nothing about looks, where people are from or religion. Every dare can be done in the room without special props.

The packs are also checked automatically on every update: no duplicates, nothing from a list of blocked words, and enough prompts in every pack and level. Medium truths can be a little awkward but never ask players to reveal other people's private business.

Dare timer and present mode

Turn on Time the dares and every dare comes with a 15, 30, 45, 60, 90 or 120-second countdown. The player starts it when ready and can pause or restart it; when time runs out the clock turns red and gives a short beep.

Present opens the game across the whole window in very large type, readable from the back of a room on a projector or TV. Truth, Dare, Swap it and Next turn are all on that screen, a Full screen button hides the browser on computers, and Esc takes you back.

Your own prompts and privacy

Open Your own prompts to add questions and dares for your group (up to 200, each up to 200 characters). They're mixed into the selected packs and never repeat within a game either; untick Mix my prompts to play with the built-in packs only. Names, your prompts and settings are saved only in your browser, nothing is sent to our server, and draws use the browser's secure crypto.getRandomValues.

Frequently asked questions

Is this truth or dare game free?

Yes. It's free, needs no sign-up and runs right in your phone or computer browser.

How many truth or dare questions are there?

320 in English: 160 truths and 160 dares across five packs (friends, kids, work, couples, family), each with mild and medium prompts. The Vietnamese version has its own 320.

Is it suitable for kids?

Yes. There's no adult content, alcohol or risky stunts anywhere. For children, pick the Kids & classroom and Family packs at the Mild level.

Do the questions repeat?

Not within a game until every prompt in the selected packs has been used; then the tool says so and starts the pack over. New game resets it any time.

What if I don't want to answer?

Press Swap it for another prompt of the same type for the same player. The skipped one counts as used and won't come back this game.

Do we have to enter names?

No. With names, the tool shows whose turn it is and moves the turn along; without them, just pass the phone around.

How many players can join?

Up to 30 names, enough for a whole class. Bigger groups can split into teams that each send a player.

Can I add my own questions?

Yes, up to 200. They're saved in your browser, drawn along with the built-in packs, and you can delete them one by one.

Can I show it on a TV or projector?

Yes. Press Present for full-screen big text with every game button on screen. Esc or Close takes you back.
