Monthly salary means the contract salary plus regular allowances, without bonuses or last month’s overtime. 40 hours is the legal maximum of overtime in a month.
How to read the table
The hourly wage is the monthly salary divided by the normal working hours in the month (standard working days in the company's pay rules × hours per day), under Decree 145/2020/NĐ-CP. The table uses 26 days × 8 hours; with Saturdays off (about 22 days) the hourly wage is roughly 18% higher.
Overtime pays at least 150% of the hourly wage on a normal working day, 200% on the weekly rest day and 300% on a public holiday or Tết (Article 98 of the 2019 Labour Code). Overtime at night, from 10pm to 6am, pays 200%, 270% and 390%.
Limits, tax and foreign employees
- No more than 40 overtime hours a month and 200 a year (300 in textiles, footwear, electronics, food processing and some other sectors); normal plus overtime hours at most 12 a day.
- Overtime needs the employee's consent, except in the emergencies listed in Article 108 of the Labour Code.
- From 1 July 2026 all lawful overtime and night pay is exempt from personal income tax; before that only the premium above normal pay was exempt.
- The Labour Code covers foreign employees with Vietnamese employment contracts, so the same minimum rates and limits apply.
