The three mother columns include the VND 5,060,000 birth grant per baby. Insured salary: the average monthly salary on which social insurance was paid over the 6 months before the leave, as shown in the VssID app.
How to read the table
The mother gets 6 months of leave, each paid at 100% of her average insured salary; from 1 July 2026, a second child (one living child at the birth) gives 7 months. For twins or more, each extra baby adds one month. Each baby also brings a birth grant of twice the reference level (VND 5,060,000 with a reference level of VND 2,530,000).
A father paying social insurance gets 5 working days for a normal birth, 7 for a caesarean or a baby born before 32 weeks, 10 for twins or a second child and 14 for twins by caesarean, each day paid at the average salary ÷ 24. Recovery days after the birth are paid from the reference level, not the salary: VND 759,000 a day (5 days for a normal birth, 7 after a caesarean, 10 for twins or more).
Who qualifies
- The mother has paid compulsory social insurance (BHXH) for 6 months in the 12 months before the birth (3 months if she has 12+ months paid and needed pregnancy rest on medical advice).
- The father only needs to be paying compulsory social insurance when his wife gives birth; he takes the leave within 60 days of the birth.
- Foreign employees with a work permit and a contract of 12 months or more are in compulsory social insurance and follow the same rules.
- A mother who left her job before the birth but has the 6 months still qualifies and files with the social insurance office where she lives.
